Don’t get caught by Valentine’s pay

- BY RHIAN LUBINN

BARACK Obama’s holidayy snaps on Necker Island caused quite a stir as he e enjoyed a well-earned break after eight years in the White House.

He was snapped kiteesurfing and playfighting on a yacht with Virgin tycoon n Sir Richard Branson, who ho owns Necker.

Mr Obama, 55, and wife ife Michelle, 53, were the latest in a long line of famous faces to stay with Branson and his family in the Caribbean.

PRINCESS

They include the likes of pop’s op’s Harry Styles, TV’s David Hasselsselhoff, singer Mariah Carey, rey, Tinseltown’s Mel Gibson, Rollinglling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jaggergger and even Princess Diana.

Branson, 66, bought Necker cker Island in 1979 for about £180,000 0,000 and, of course, his famous palsl get to stay there for free.

But for anyone else it costs £40,000 per night to stay.

That is small change for the world’s rich and famous.

So here we look at other big names who have pushed the boat out by inviting celebrity pals to stay – and put a price tag on the holiday should ever fancy it.

Well, we can but dream... It is easy to get caught up in the hype of Valentine’s Day and spend a fortune you can’t afford. But a recent survey by Glowing Embers revealed 5 per cent of people see a handwritten love letter as the perfect gift, over something impersonal and expensive.

Here are a few money-saving options to consider this Tuesday:

Make your own card. It will probably be funnier or more romantic than anything you can find in the shops. TV guru Simon Cowell, 57, and partner Lauren Silverman, 39, invited his old flame Sinitta, 53, to Barbados in 2014. A week at the nearby Sandy Lane resort, with flights, costs up to £11,590. Write that perfect love letter inside.

Give a promise rather than a physical gift – a gesture that shows how well you know your Valentine, such as a promise to do the dishes every night for a month, or breakfast in bed on demand.

You don’t need to eat out to have a special meal. Set the scene with candles, and music to spark memories. If you can’t whip up a gourmet meal, go for the food that shows you know ACTOR George Clooney photobombs model Cindy Crawford, 50, and her husband Randy Gerber, 54, after they invited him to their Mexico retreat.

George, 55, and wife Amal, 39 – who are expecting twins – were guests at Cindy’s £40million villa in Cabo San Lucas just two months after getting married in 2014. George had been there before with previous partners.

Luxury hotels in Cabo San Lucas typically charge £550 a night. With flights it comes to £5,139 a week. each other, whether that’s her fave mac ‘n’ cheese or his top takeaway.

Get creative with scissors, pen and glue. Cut up red napkins and scatter across the bed to give the impression of rose petals, write a message on the mirror, hide hearts in her handbag.

Remember why you are together – take a trip down memory lane. Pop in for a pint at your first-date pub, catch a film in your old cinema, or browse through old photo albums together.
