Motherhood is so often a tough sob
Arriving early for a meeting in London, I popped into a coffee shop to kill time.
As I sat down, I heard a sobbing sound and looked round to see a woman in her early thirties with a newborn baby asleep in a pram.
Tears rolling down her face, she said into her phone: “It’s taking more than I can give… I don’t know how to make it better… I feel defeated, broken.”
It took me right back to my early days as a new mum. Nothing can prepare you for the exhaustion and emotion.
So I hope she’s OK. If she’s reading this, I want her to know charities like Tommy’s ( tommys.org ) can help new mums get back on track.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mums out there. After jumping through so many hoops (IVF and adoption) to join your ranks, I have to admit it’s the best job in the world. And I expect to get spoilt rotten today, because, dare I say, I’m worth it. Corden’s verdict
