We’ll be all right if you vote for left

-

THE battle lines in this general election become clearer as each day of this campaign unfolds.

Voters are being presented with Labour promises of more fairness in the workplace, and justice in the tax system.

By contrast, Theresa May’s Tories are busy burying the promises David Cameron made two years ago. The triple lock which gives pensioners an annual increase of at least 2.5 per cent is no longer guaranteed. Rises in National Insurance and VAT are on the cards.

John McDonnell tells us today there will also be tax rises under Labour, but only for those who can afford them. If your income is £1million, an extra £42,500 will not be missed.

Labour’s pledge to redress the balance of power in the workplace will be welcomed by all employees whose rights have been whittled away. Interns should not be taken on as slave labour. Women should not lose jobs when they have a child. Chaotic zero-hours contracts should be replaced by ordered work patterns.

All workers deserve equal rights, whether they have been employed for one day or for 10 years. A 21-year-old should get the same pay for doing the same job as a 31-year-old.

These are good reasons to vote Labour on June 8. And if you are reluctant to do that, think what a massive Tory majority would be like with a control freak like Theresa May at the helm.

Britain would nudge one step closer towards a one-party state in which opposition would be crushed. Voters have lost trust in establishment politicians who let them down. That’s why they took a punt on an outsider in America and are doing so in France.

And it is that which gives Jeremy Corbyn an outside chance.
