Lawyer who nailed Rochdale gang reveals threats horror

- BY PHIL CARDY

THE lawyer who made the decision that brought the Three Girls sex scandal gang to justice has revealed he received threats after the 2012 trial.

Nazir Afzal, former Crown Prosecution Service chief for the North West, was given a police guard outside his home and installed a panic alarm.

The threats came from Asians – accusing him of being disloyal to the Muslim abusers – and far-right thugs . Mr Afzal said: “One week there were 17,000 letters or emails to my offices saying I should be sacked and deported, even though I was born in Birmingham. There were threats of violence. It was horrific.” Mr Afzal – played by ex-EastEnders actor Ace Bhatti in Three Girls – sparked fury in the abusers’ Asian community when he overturned a 2008 decision not to prosecute the paedophile gang.
