Son cannot tell greed from need
I am proud to say that I have never asked my parents for a single penny as an adult.
So I was pretty disgusted to read about Michael Dawes, a Lottery millionaire’s son who blew a £1.6million gift in two years and then sued his father for more.
Can you believe it? What an ungrateful, inconsiderate and deluded man. According to reports, he spent about £550,000 on a house in Portsmouth, gave nearly £250,000 to friends and his partner’s family, and quit a well-paid IT job.
Dismissing the case, the judge described the couple’s £30,000 a month spending as “astonishing”.
It’s not often I quote Socrates but I think Michael should heed these wise words from the Greek philosopher: “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
