Boozing runs in our family

-

Wine O’Clock is becoming a real problem in our house. I know I drink too much. When my husband gets home, we both drink together. Now my eldest son is working, he joins in too. I know it’s bad for us all, and we’ve tried to cut back. The thing is – we like drinking. But I know things are just getting worse. Your story shows just how much our ordinary family lives now revolve around alcohol. But you’re right. While moderate drinking is still deemed to be OK, many find themselves spiralling into a drink habit and it sounds as though your whole family support each other in destructive behaviour. What’s most telling is your remark that you all still like drinking – which suggests you’re not going to stop. How about agreeing to support, encourage and nag each other in cutting down? Agree to break the habit by all going out to a movie, or for a meal. How about agreeing that every other drink will be water or fruit juice? Use the teamwork to try to cut down.
