WATSON: LIONS ON-SONG

- BY ADAM HATHAWAY SARACENS:

BATH wing Anthony Watson reckons that the Lions will be calling the tune in New Zealand – thanks to the team choir.

Boss Warren Gatland ordered singing practice at last week’s training camp in Wales but Watson says not everyone is a natural on the microphone.

He said: “The choir is pretty good – we have had a couple of sessions and we are getting there. The boys are getting to grips with the songs– some are tricky, some are a bit easier.

“It has been enjoyable and it is part of bonding. At the start it was not going as smoothly as we would have liked and then everyone let inhibitions go to one side and we ended up sounding pretty decent.

“Jonathan Joseph thinks he can sing, but he is terrible.”

Watson has also vowed to keep his nose clean down under so he does not face the wrath of the dreaded Lions fines committee.

In 2013 Ireland wing Simon Zebo was forced to phone his Munster coach Rob Penney and ask to be made club captain while the entire squad was listening.

Watson added: “I think I would be alright with the fine Zebo had but I am just going to be whiter than white – I can’t be doing any of that.”
