RICH Ryan Giggs was disqualified at a golf tournament – for not paying a £5 entry fee.

The Man Utd legend – worth an estimated £40million – entered the contest at his local club.

Players were meant to pay a fiver in cash the day before but Giggs and a pal went ahead with their rounds without paying.

They completed the 18 holes along with another 143 golfers.

But when the results were published on the Worsley Golf Club website, Giggs was ranked 144th, with a “DQ” by his name and the message “No comp fee paid”.

He was ranked just one place above his childhood pal and teammate Tony Camilleri, who also failed to pay the fee.

A fellow player who entered the Men’s Captain’s Qualifier 2 tournament said: “It caused a bit of a giggle in the clubhouse. Ryan’s got a few bob in the bank so it has made us laugh. He’s a popular lad around the club but rules are rules.”

Giggsy, 43, has been a member of the £ 950- a- year club in Eccles, Greater Manchester, for years.

The player added: “Anyone entering the contest is meant to pay a fiver in cash in the club shop. I’m sure it was just a mistake, but he played on anyway with his pal.

“It put a smile on people’s faces seeing him at the bottom of the leader board and I’m sure he’ll see the funny side.” A day or two after the tournament a club official sent out an email clarifying the rules.

It said: “Can I please remind all members that to enter any competition you need to pay the required amount in cash the day before.

“I have been informed that this is becoming a regular issue with a number of members not having enough cash with them.”
