Tattoo’s looking at you, kids

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

ENGLAND’S World Cup-winning Under-20s squad made an indelible mark on the history of the national game when they triumphed against Venezuela in South Korea last Sunday.

And skipper Lewis Cook (below) has revealed that he and his victorious teammates are plotting a more personal but equally permanent reminder of their achievements.

The 20-year-old Bournemouth midfielder said: “I don’t know if we’ll all get tattoos. We probably will. Something like winning the World Cup, you have to mark it in some way or other so we’ll see.

“We’ve been celebrating since we won, it’s just going to have to sink in. We’ll have a little rest now before next season. But when we get back for pre-season, that’s when it will really sink in, when we see the other lads at our clubs. We’ve had a lot of support from family and friends and people back home, so it has been great.”

Cook, who became the first Englishman since Bobby Moore to hoist aloft a version of the World Cup, will make a special pilgrimage to Wembley to pose for a photo alongside the statue of the 1966 hero.

He added: “When we went with the U17s we ended up walking around Wembley and it was a great night. I saw the statue of Bobby Moore and I’m going to have to get a little photo beside it.

“It has been an unbelievable experience, the best time of my life.

“I’m so proud of all the lads and how hard we have worked since we were young.”

Former Leeds star Cook says he has been humbled by the attention his team have received, adding: “We’ve had a lot of video messages from the senior squad and very established players, past and present, so they have helped a lot.”
