Monk’s set to raid old club Leeds
GARRY MONK has been handed an eight-figure war chest to fire Middlesbrough back into the Premier League – and he will use it to make a raid on former club Leeds.
The new Teessiders chief is keen to add Kyle Bartley and Charlie Taylor to his ranks, with funds of over £20million believed to be available to him.
Bartley spent last season on loan at Leeds from Swansea and was one of the stand-out performers for the club.
Swansea want £7.5m for him and that is likely to be the first of several moves in the marketplace.
Taylor is another Monk would like. The 23-year-old is out of contract, but Leeds would be due compensation.
A number of Premier League clubs, including West Brom and Burnley, have been linked with him and Monk is unlikely to get it all his own way.
Monk has also been linked with Leeds striker Chris Wood. Although he is on their list of options, it is believed Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga is their preferred option.
