A woman boss is on her way...

- BY STEVE STAMMERS

A WOMAN will become manager of a football club in England sooner rather than later, says former Arsenal star Rachel Yankey.

The ex-England winger, with 129 caps and an OBE for her services to football, insists: “Yes, it will happen.

“Women are playing a bigger and more important role – there is a female club coach in France and a woman is part of the coaching set-up with Italy’s youth players.”

There may well be a job in coaching and management one day for Yankey. She already has her UEFA B licence and is working for her A licence.

As part of that, she has worked with the Haringey men’s Under-21 team.

And she has not had one problem – just total respect.

“Coaching is like teaching,” said Yankey. “If you have a good teacher at school, you don’t think of them as a man or a woman. You just think of them as a good teacher.

“I have had no problems at Haringey. The opposite in fact.”
