Davina: I love Love Island
..but I won’t let my boy watch it
DAVINA McCall is obsessed with Love Island but has banned her 10-year-old from watching the raunchy show.
She believes that the ITV2 favourite is the “new shiny toy” of television and could even move to ITV next year.
Davina, 49, who presented Big Brother for 10 years, said: “Love Island is what Big Brother used to be. It’s got such an amazing buzz about it. I love it.”
But the mum of three says she won’t let son Chester watch the programme which regularly sees contestants romping.
“I watch it with my 15-year-old, but I wouldn’t let my 10-year-old watch it, put it that way,” she said.
And Davina added: “It’s been going for years but I love that it’s all about this year.
“They are going to go on to ITV next year for sure. They would be lunatics if they didn’t.”
There are reports that this year’s show may be extended, potentially clashing with the Channel 5 finale of Big Brother – and even the launch of Celebrity Big Brother.
Star Davina, speaking at the Attitude Pride Awards in London, told how people feel the pressure to be part of a new TV phenomenon, such as Love Island.
She said: “It’s horrible when you are not in the know about it.”

As fame-hungry contestants lose their inhibitions, Paula Allen hides behind a cushion cringing.
But she told Talk TV: “Gabby’s made the decision she would not do that. She wants to find love and grow a relationship before she goes and does that. She’s not that type of girl.
“I cringe for parents of those who’ve had sex at the villa and had to watch it at home. I wouldn’t be happy.
“I’ve guided my Gabby so she wouldn’t disappoint herself. She has morals.”
Down to earth Gabby, 25 has coupled up with ex-Blazin’ Squad star Marcel Somerville, 31. The pair are favourites to win the hit ITV2 show. Support poured in on social media when she broke down this week, calling herself “the ugliest in the villa”. Paula said the fitness instructor’s “blip” was due to body hang-ups after suffering curvature of the spine as a child. Ops meant she didn’t grow and is just 5ft tall. “She should have grown a lot taller and developed in her torso,” says Paula. “But now she’s powerful and her body suits what she does. “I was in bits when I saw her cry. I was close to booking a plane to go and get her. She’s thinking ‘I don’t have long blonde hair or big boobs.’ She doesn’t think she’s ugly facially but she’s very small and doesn’t feel feminine. But she is.”
Paula hopes she doesn’t copy the show’s surgically enhanced girls.
“She’s curious how she’d look with boobs but she’s not 100 per cent committed to surgery. I hope she doesn’t spoil anything as she’s gorgeous to me.”
Paula, from Liverpool, even discussed marriage and babies with Marcel’s mum.
“He’s perfect for her. He was so compassionate when he comforted her. Gabby never had that with a guy so she’s wondering if it’s too good to be true.
“Marcel’s mum and I have talked about them getting married! Wouldn’t it be lovely? I saw a baby picture and he was adorable. They’d have the most beautiful children.” No pressure, then...
