(Sleft) RETIRE BEFORE JOE WRECKS ME
DAVID HAYE reckons new signing Joe Joyce is so dangerous he is going to retire before the younger fighter gets to world level.
Haye, 36, confirmed last week that the 31-year-old Olympic super-heavyweight silver medallist had signed for the Hayemaker Ringstar stable he will run with renowned promoter Richard Schaefer.
And, while the pair have big plans for Joyce, they do not involve a fight with the former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion.
Haye said: “I’m just hoping I’ve retired before he gets to world level.
“I wouldn’t fancy mixing it with Joe.
“He doesn’t move, he’s just an immovable object.
“I’m just going to get my career over with before he moves on to the world scene.
“Joe has time against him, in one aspect. He’s 31.
“But I know first hand, I’ve seen what he can do to some very high-level, world-class professional boxers with 16-18oz gloves on.
“He has a granite chin, I’ve seen him hit with big, big shots where they just bounce off him.
“Joe is an absolute weapon.”
Joyce has left it late to turn professional, but Haye expects him to be challenging for world titles in the next couple of years.
He added: “He’s 10-round fit today. He could fight in a 10-round fight in a week’s time against pretty much anybody in the world – and he would probably win, he is that good.
“He doesn’t need the little four-rounders against guys from wherever.
“The only issue we’re going to have is guys being willing to get in the ring with him because he doesn’t get tired.
“He doesn’t want to waste a year, hitting people with one shot and them falling over.
“He wants to do eight or 10-rounders straight away, he is that advanced.“
