BRITISH PAIR CROWNED AGAIN

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

GORDON REID and Alfie Hewett beat Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer of France to successfully defend their men’s wheelchair doubles crown.

The British pair won 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in a repeat of their epic tussle in last year’s final.

Hewett said: “It feels absolutely amazing, to do it in such a close battle with the French – they fought for every point and really made a playing wheelchair tennis now for 12 years and never once did I think we’d fill a stadium like this, especially when the women’s final was on Centre Court at the same time.”

Fellow Brit Jordanne Whiley will defend her women’s wheelchair doubles title today with partner Yui Kimiji.
