son ends up looking after me. I’ll be sitting on the streets of San Antonio at 7am, acting an idiot, and he will come and say, ‘Dad, what are you doing?’”

Wayne grew up in Leicester and left school at 14 to work with his 79-yearold dad Barry on the markets selling fruit and vegetables, meaning he “learned business very young”.

While Gary was scoring goals for England, Wayne established his first Linekers bar in Tenerife. It became an instant success.

“Our parents are proud of us. Gary has had unbelievable success. We are two completely different ends of a scale,” says Wayne.

“Gary is a very intelligent guy in a general knowledge kind of way, whereas I’m not. I’m savvy and streetwise.” The death of their mum Margaret in 2015 hit the brothers hard – Wayne says she was “the best ever”.

Last month it was revealed Gary is the second-highest paid star at the BBC, earning £1,750,000-£1,799,999 a year. Wayne says he is “immensely proud” of his brother.

NERVOUS†

“He deserves it. I’m his biggest fan,” he says. “He is very good at presenting now. I remember watching him when he first started, he was absolutely rubbish.

“He was so nervous doing Match of the Day, but within six months he got his confidence sorted. When he started he had to replace Des Lynam, Des was fantastic in his day, he was the man. Trying to follow that is really difficult, but Gary pulled it off. Within two years he was established and now he is the main man.

“There is probably no one better. He works hard and is a very intelligent man.

“He has always been protective of his image, which has paid off in the years. He is a very respected man and has done well.”

Wayne – who has appeared on reality show The Only Way Is Essex – says he is happy with his own lot and plans kids with Danielle. He said: “The businesses are going great. It’s now the UK’s number one destination in Ibiza, and Danielle and I have the best time together.

“I want more children – just one or two would be great. I already have four. She is doing her modelling now so I’ve said ‘you’ve got to hurry up, I’m 55 now’. “The age group I work with, they don’t get any older. “My girlfriend is 25 so there is a 30-year age difference, but I think we look good together. “I don’t care what people think. I don’t think we look odd together. We are very suited to each other. “She is an older 25 and I’m a younger 55.” ■■Get all the details about Ocean Beach at oceanbeachibiza.com
