Pep’s plugged his leaky defence and City will be team to beat
still moaning about needing more players. He’s canny, he has strengthened the spine of his team, and a pretty massive spine it is too, with an average height of around 7ft it seems! Honestly, their midfield with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini must be the tallest in history. You’d fancy them to beat the Lakers. But they will be really solid now, and with another giant in Lukaku up front, they’ll score plenty of goals, too. Chelsea, I’m not so sure about. I sense a bit of unrest in their dressing room and there’s more than a hint as an ex-pro that things aren’t right among the players. Arsenal have signed Alexandre Lacazette, but again, even though everyone in the world – even Jeremy Corbyn – has said they need defenders, they’ve only signed a free transfer left-back. Will it be enough when they could lose two or three of their best players? I don’t think so.
I suspect that sides will change their way of playing against Spurs. I’m not exactly saying the rest of the league have worked Tottenham out, but I do think they will make it much harder for them.
As for Liverpool, well the players they have brought in already are decent. I think Mohamed Salah could be really important for them, while Dominic Solanke has impressed me and he could be a real cute signing.
But their campaign will rest so much on what happens between now and the end of August.
Will they bring more in? I think they need to, especially with Adam Lallana being injured.
And of course, they have to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho. Much will hinge on who they get and who they keep. With questions on just about all of the others, I think City are the obvious favourites, though the weeks before the window closes could still change everything.
