TOM’S WALK TO FAME

-

TOM BOSWORTH, a man on a mission to popularise race walking, can do his campaign the world of good by winning a medal today. Heading into the final day of competition, Mo Farah was the only Briton to have won a World individual medal. But Bosworth (left), who broke the mile world record last month, claims to have the form to go much better than on his sixth place at the Rio Olympics. “People say, ‘Why walk when you can run?’,” said the first British track athlete to come out as gay. “Running is for people who can’t race walk.” Race walking has been blighted by doping, particularly in Russia, but Bosworth said: “Some need doping to win, whereas I am now at the front of the pack and I know I’m clean and I can beat you.”
