but fol­low­ing their sur­prise split the singer tells me he no longer be­lieves in mar­riage: “you should be scared of it. I very much be­lieve two peo­ple should be to­gether.

“I’m very much a ro­man­tic. but mar­riage, the in­sti­tu­tion of it, is like an out­dated con­tract. It doesn’t work in to­day’s so­ci­ety. Look at the statis­tics. It’s a harsh re­al­ity. It’s ab­surd. The in­sti­tu­tion of ‘death do us part’, it’s like... bloody hell.”

The 54-year-old says: “I’m sin­gle, what­ever that means. Sure, I have peo­ple I see. I do have a lot of love in my life now and that’s very ful­fill­ing.”

The cou­ple were fa­mous for their out­ra­geous Hal­loween par­ties. but Seal says: “That wasn’t my idea, that was more my ex’s... cha­rade. I was a team player but that wasn’t my thing.”

He also said the rea­son he ap­peared on Amer­ica’s Got Tal­ent with judge Heidi, 44, last month was for their four kids.

He says: “Heidi and I are func­tional, we’ve got no choice, we’ve got four kids. I went on the show for them.”

Seal is back with a new al­bum of modern clas­sics ti­tled Stan­dards, re­leased on Novem­ber 10.
