WITH the champagne on ice and the stage set to celebrate Liverpool’s 125th anniversar­y, Anfield might have handpicked Burnley to be their party guests.

Without a League win at Liverpool since 1974, Burnley looked to be the perfect companions for a knees-up.

Someone, though, must have forgotten to tell the Clarets as boss Sean Dyche and his party-poopers spoiled the shin-dig to put the tin hat on the worst of weeks for Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool had 35 efforts at goal – most in a second half when they laid siege to Burnley’s goal in search of an elusive winner.

But young keeper Nick Pope was terrific on his full Premier League debut as stand-in for the injured Tom Heaton.

Ben Mee was immense at the heart of defence and no one dug deeper than fellow centre-back James Tarkowski, who was an absolute tower of strength.

No wonder Dyche was delighted as his stars held out for a point after exposing Liverpool’s aerial weakness to plunder a point.

And if Joel Matip had not cleared an 80th-minute Mee header off the line it could have been even worse for Klopp.
