Night of carnage
Three killed and nine are wounded after a string of late-night attacks
THREE people died and at least another nine were injured during a night of shocking violence.
The carnage late on Friday and early yesterday included a mass brawl where one man, aged 21, was killed.
He was stabbed in the neck close to Suburbia nightclub in Manchester city centre at about 3am.
Two young women were also knocked out and another man glassed during the fighting, which is believed to have started inside the venue before spilling out on to the street.
CORDON
Police were seen guarding a body bag behind a cordon as daylight broke just hours after the mayhem.
In Maidstone, Kent, a 50-year-old man died in hospital of a head injury following a late-night fight.
Investigators were yesterday questioning four teenagers – aged 15, 16, 17 and 18 – after the victim, named as Wayne Chester, was reportedly killed by a punch at 10.30pm on Friday.
Meanwhile a murder probe was launched after a man of 21 was fatally stabbed in Bow, East London.
Police found the victim wounded in the street after being called to a disturbance at 2.30am yesterday. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he later died.
A boy of 14 was also fighting for his life last night after being knifed outside a Birmingham mosque at 1am yesterday.
The teen was repeatedly stabbed in the head after his father dropped him off for a special youth event.
Leaders at the Idara Maarif-e-Islam Hussainia Mosque in Small Heath claim it was a racially motivated attack.
The mosque’s information secretary Adnan Khan said: “We believe this was a racist attack and the young lad was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Mosque president Azhar Kiana added: “It happened on the pavement.
“By the time the dad parked his car, his son was on the floor. There was a man who was brutally beating the boy with a knife. There was blood everywhere, he was hitting the boy’s neck and head. Then the attacker ran off and got into a car.” Hassan Shah, who is part of the mosque’s youth team, told how there were about 200 children and teenagers in attendance at the time. He added: “His brother saw it all and was screaming to his dad to come and help.” Another witness, who asked not to be named, added: “The police and ambulance were here very quickly. “I don’t know him but we are praying for him. It is really scary and I’m worried for the safety of my own children.” The youngster was in a critical condition as West Midlands Police confirmed a man, 29, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Detectives said the incident was not being treated as terror-related but they were probing whether there was any racial motivation. Five more people were injured early yesterday during two linked stabbing incidents in Sheffield city centre. Police said they arrested four people – two on suspicion of attempted murder.
