OJ Simpson’s tense wait for prison release

- From GREG WOODFIELD in Miami, Florida BY HALINA WATTS Showbiz Editor

JAILED OJ Simpson is “going crazy” waiting to be freed, his closest friend has revealed.

The disgraced NFL star turned actor, 70, has been held in an isolation wing since being granted parole in July. He is eligible for release from tomorrow.

Pal Tom Scotto, 55, said: “I’ve spoken to him by phone and he says he’s going crazy with the wait to get out. It is driving him nuts.

“It is a very emotional time and it has been getting to him.

“To cope, he has buried himself in books – particularly James Patterson crime novels – so he’s got his mind on something else.

“He also watches a lot of crime shows on TV.” Mr Scotto added:

Fadi Fawaz, 40, is still grieving after finding the 53-year-old pop superstar dead on Christmas Day last year.

And nine months on, the fine art photographer is still finding it hard to come to terms with the tragedy.

He said: “It is very sad, you know. If he’s not here, he’s not here.

“There will never ever be a lover in my life after George.

“I do not have anyone in my life and there will never be anyone ever. That is the truth.”

Fadi still lives in the late singer’s £5million Regent’s Park home, one of two he owned in London.

He claims he had tried to nurse the star back to good health after years of alcohol and drug abuse.

An inquest found the singer died of natural causes at his country home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

This month a new documentary directed by George will air on Channel 4 and detail the Wham! idol’s despair at the loss of his first love Anselmo Feleppa, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1993.

It will include homemade footage of the Brazilian never shown before. George had secretly cared for Anselmo for four years up until his death.

The documentary, Freedom, will also detail the death of George’s mum Lesley Angold Panayiotou in 1997.

The film is narrated by the singer who was working on it in the days before his death.

It features a string of stars including Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Liam Gallagher, Tony Bennett, Mark Ronson, artist Tracey Emin, fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, Kate Moss, Ricky Gervais, and James Corden.

After Anselmo’s death, George went on to find love with Texan art collector Kenny Goss, 59, setting up the GossMichael Foundation. They split in 2009 after 13 years, soon after George started dating Fadi.

Neither Kenny nor Fadi are featured in the film. But a source said: “Freedom doesn’t discount the importance of the relationships in his later life. Fadi will always love George and he is making sure his house is looked after.”

Others claim Fadi has not been welcomed by George’s family. George’s cousin Andros Georgiou said: “Fadi disappeared after George’s death. He was never a part of the family. He and George just had an arrangement.” “He was put into isolation immediately after winning his release because the jail authorities feared a jealous prisoner might shank [knife] him.”

Simpson, who is being held at Lovelock Correctional Centre in Nevada, has served nine years of a 33-year sentence for armed robbery at a Las Vegas hotel.

It is understood he wants to

return to Florida on his release. He could move in with car repair firm boss Mr Scotto or one of the children from his marriage to Nicole Brown Simpson, whom he was cleared of murdering in 1995.

However, Florida’s Attorney General Pam Bondi has written to authorities in Nevada to object to Simpson serving his parole in the Sunshine State.
