WEMBLEY’S GOT AJAYI ALL TREMBLY

- BY KEITH WEBSTER

JAY AJAYI will finally fulfil his lifelong dream of playing in his home town when he takes the field at Wembley this afternoon.

But the standout Miami Dolphins running back is just as thrilled to see the progress of his adopted sport in Britain and hopes he can be the inspiration for others to follow in his NFL footsteps.

The Arsenalloving Londoner (above) had to watch from the sidelines two years ago because of injury when the Dolphins played at Wembley, but he is raring to go for today’s clash with the New Orleans Saints. He said: “It’s a special game for me. I get to come home. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to certain people.

“I’m not going to let that distract me from my goal, which is to win the game. But I’m definitely going to enjoy this experience.”

And he now hopes that experience will not only belong to him but to some of the players dreaming they could be the next Brit to break into the NFL.

He said: “From my perspective of going back this summer, I got to go and meet the London Blitz football team. Seeing everything that they’ve got going on over here was exciting.

“I remember growing up not too far from the park where they were practising.

“And I was thinking, ‘Wow, they’re really out here now and they’re working at their craft’. It’s exciting to know that they are taking American football seriously.” TODAY NewOrleans @ Miami 1.45pm BBC2 Pittsburgh @ Baltimore 5.30pm SSAction Oakland @ Denver 9pm SSAction Indianapolis @ Seattle 1am SSAction TOMORROW/TUESDAY Washington @ Kansas THURSDAY/FRIDAY New England @ Tampa Bay 12.30am SSAction SATURDAY/SUNDAY The NFL Show 1.15am SSAction 12.05pm BBC1
