Danilo carries the wait

- By STEVE BATES

DANILO might be a double Champions League winner but that’s still not enough for a regular place at Manchester City.

The defender, who cost £26.5million from Real Madrid in the summer, is having to play second fiddle to Kyle Walker for now.

He played the last few minutes of City’s 2-1 Euro win over Napoli and before that was a lastminute substitute in the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

But the Brazilian star insists he is willing to bide his time, with Pep Guardiola’s stars in rampaging form in the Premier League and Europe.

“It’s normal that I have to show a bit of patience and wait my chance as City have a great squad,” he said.

“There’s so much quality here and so many great players. But the season is really long and I know I’ll be needed at some point.

“That’s why I’m training hard and preparing myself to be absolutely ready when the time comes.

“The first few weeks in England have gone well and I’m happy.

“I’m learning all the time from Pep and the rest of the squad and that is really helping.”

Having won the Champions League with Real in 2016, Danilo was at it again last May as Zinedine Zidane’s stars beat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff.

Now the 26-year-old is targeting a third successive win with City.

He added: “We’re really happy with how we’ve started in the Champions League.

“It’s so important to get as many points on the board as quickly as possible and that’s what we’ve done.”
