WOLVES boss Nuno Espirito Santo was unhappy with the lack of fight from his side after their promotion hopes suffered a setback in west London.

They blew the chance to reclaim top spot in the Championsh­ip after substitute Matt Smith netted a dramatic late winner to help QPR record their first win in eight games.

Following Sheffield United’s victory over Leeds on Friday night, Wolves knew exactly what they needed to return to top of the pack and looked to be on course after Leo Bonatini had cancelled out a first-half strike from Conor Washington.

But Santo’s side failed to make their quality count and Smith made them pay with a powerful header.

Santo is now hoping to see an immediate response when they face Norwich on Tuesday night and the battling qualities that have seen them dominate the Championsh­ip in the early stages of the season.

Santo said: “Today we were not the team that we should be, one that should be ready for 90 minutes of high intensity.

“We had good moments of building play and creating chances but we needed effective.
