Mowbray talks up promotion chances

-

sympathised with Bennett over his second booking for simulation, having been booked in the first half for a push on Nathan Byrne.

The Rovers boss said: “He’s moving that fast, he skips the ball past, the boy sticks his legs out and he either jumps over the tackle or gets absolutely smashed.

“I can’t understand it. If the referee doesn’t think it’s a foul, play the game on.

“For me, you have to get out of the way of it, with the leg hanging, or you’re going to smash your own leg.

“I’ve just watched it and it’s ridiculous.”

Wigan boss Paul Cook refused to be too downbeat at seeing two points slip through the fingers of his promotion favourites.

“There were two strong teams out there in terms of personnel. They came with a game plan to counter attack and break on us,” he said.

“We’re disappointed overall, but they have been terrific to date, and it’s another game we haven’t lost.

“I actually think being disappointed is good, because it’s healthy to play a team of Blackburn’s stature and not be happy with a point.” GRAHAM ALEXANDER paid tribute to Scunthorpe’s mental strength.

The Iron took a two-goal lead through Tom Hopper and Josh Morris, while Peter Clarke and Craig Davies struck back for the hosts, before Duane Holmes scored a late winner.

Alexander said: “Fair play to Oldham for battling their way back into the game, but my players deserve the credit for the way in which they responded in the final 10 minutes.

“They showed great character, and in the end we’ve got our rewards.”

Opposite number Richie Wellens said: “I thought we had done more than enough to get something.” GRANT McCANN hailed Peterborough’s matchwinner Marcus Maddison.

Maddison pounced after 14 minutes for what proved to be the decisive goal.

And Posh manager McCann said: “Marcus is the only player on the pitch who is capable of doing that. The goal just highlights what a special talent he is.

“It helped us pick up an important win. I thought we were tremendous as a team in terms of the level of commitment, character and attitude we showed.”

Shrewsbury lost for the first time this season, but boss Paul Hurst said: “It has been a fantastic run and I’m proud of the players for coming so far.”
