WITCOOP MEETS MICHAEL BEALE
‘I will wait for the right club’
FROM Chelsea to Liverpool and via Sao Paulo, it’s already been some journey for Michael Beale.
He has worked under the world’s finest coaches and helped bring through some of the up-and coming stars.
Tammy Abraham, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn are among those to emerge under his watch when he was Liverpool Under-23 coach.
Now Beale, 37, is ready to continue his ascent and step into management.
Beale’s seven-month stay in Brazil opened his eyes to what is required when he follows the same path taken by mentors Brendan Rodgers and Paul Clement in heading to the dugout.
He admitted: “The assistant manager’s job with Sao Paulo came out of the blue.
“But I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t take it as it was an opportunity of a lifetime with arguably the biggest club in Brazil.
“The experiences will stay with me for ever and I’m certainly open to working abroad again.
“I only left as the project had changed and promises made by the club had been broken.”
Beale (above) returned home in July and is now back working at Liverpool’s Academy.
He added: “I’m still progressing and I will wait for the right club.
“We’re in a resultsdriven business and it’s difficult for a young homegrown coach to be given time in a job to implement ideas.
“I look at Paul Clement and the journey he had to make to get his opportunity at Swansea.
“I’m not sure he’d have got that chance if he’d stayed as Chelsea’s Under-23 coach.”
