Tearjerker ad with toy pup has 300k hits

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

AN RSPCA Christmas advert showing a toy puppy being abandoned then rescued has been viewed online more than 300,000 times in two days.

Cuddly Woody is seen thrown out in a pile of rubbish before he is found and taken in by the charity.

The weepy ad has been released as the RSPCA is braced for 2,000 calls a day over the festive season.

Deborah Caffull, from the charity’s Birmingham animal centre, where part of the film was shot, said: “While this video shows the tale of a toy dog, the sentiment behind the story is very real. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs like Woody every day.”

The video soundtrack is a cover of Simply Red’s Stars, performed by RSPCA worker Lucy Ellie.
