-

he has worked his socks off to be back as early as he has. He has got a massive appetite to play.”

A ding-dong match was poised 25-25 with 13 minutes left and both teams battering each other into next week.

But Leicester were the first to blink when Cipriani opened up their defence and Myall did the rest to put them fifth in the table.

Young added: “I always thought there was going to be winner. Both teams were attacking and a bit loose because they were trying to win.

“I was confident if we got field position we’d have the composure to do what we had to do.” Tigers raced to a 10-0 lead after 14 minutes with Tom Youngs’ try and George Ford’s penalty before the outstanding Wasps No.8 Nizaam Carr got one back. Scrum-half Dan Robson got Wasps in front by the break but the second half was Full Metal Jacket stuff as both defences tackled themselves to standstill.

Rookie wing Jonah Holmes got two tries for Leicester, the second when he intercepted Willie le Roux’s pass and did Christian Wade for gas from 75 metres.

That double put Tigers 22-17 up going into the last quarter, but Elliot Daly showed why he was England’s player of the autumn when he outflanked the defence and scooted in from 45 metres.

George Ford levelled with a penalty before Cipriani dealt the killer blow.

Leicester boss Matt O’Connor said: “They ripped into each other. We didn’t have enough score pressure in the first half and they clawed their way back.

“The effort was outstanding. We probably deserved to be closer but they executed at the end.”
