Panama could prove taxing

THE Panama Papers exposed the dubious tax affairs of some of the world’s highest-worth individual­s. Now the country’s former manager, Englishman Gary Stempel, has warned that Panama could leave some of the world’s wealthiest footballer­s equally red-faced. England’s group opponents qualified for next summer’s tournament with a 2-1 win over Costa Rica, a result which sparked scenes of utter jubilation across the country. And Londoner Stempel isn’t ruling out a repeat party after the Central American minnows take on England in Novgorod in June. “Panama will be a completely unknown quantity and they’ll fancy their chances against England,” he said. “It sounds crazy, but everything they’ve achieved has been crazy.”
