SOME MIGHT PAY

Liam and Noel among host of stars charging fans more in home towns

- BY DAVID JARVIS

LIAM Gallagher fans will pay more to see their idol in his home city Manchester than any other UK gig.

And the former Oasis singer is not the only one. It is common for stars to charge more for performances in their old stomping grounds, research reveals.

Tickets for Liam’s concert at the Manchester Arena on December 16 are £45, which is £6.56 more than the £38.44 average ticket price on his UK tour.

Even his London gig at Alexandra Palace on Thursday was cheaper than Manchester – at £36.50.

Figures show concert goers can pay as much as £25 more for tickets depending on the town or city.

But prices in places where the stars hail from are frequently the highest.

Londoner Sam Smith and Dubliner Niall Horan fall into this category.

Sam will charge £52.50 to fans in London for his concerts at the O2 next April, making them £2.86 more than the £49.64 average price of a ticket for his 2018 UK tour. The cheapest tickets are available in Sheffield for only £37.50.

Faithful hometown fans of Niall will also pay through the nose.

It will cost £49.20 to see him in Dublin on March 29, which is £5.69 more than the average £37.21 anywhere else on his UK and Ireland tour. That is even more than his London concert in Brixton on March 24, when the price is only £39.50.

Liam’s brother Noel charges £49.50 in Manchester, £2.16 over than the average £47.34 on his 2018 spring tour.

They will have to stump up £49.50 to see him in Glasgow and London, meaning his home city is in a three-way tie for the most expensive tickets. The cheapest gig on his tour is in Belfast, where tickets are only £30.

Singer Dua Lipa will charge fans £28 to see her in London at Alexandra Palace on April 20. That is £2.31 more than the average price of £25.69 for her other gigs.

Tickets to see Leicester band Kasabian in Birmingham on Friday and last night were marked at £45.

That is on a par with the rest of their UK and Ireland gigs with the exception of Dublin, £52.16, and London £47.50.

The research from shopping website Boom25 shows it might be cheaper to travel to concerts, perhaps if groups of fans shared transport costs.

London was revealed to be the city with the highest average ticket price at £50.97. Cardiff is the cheapest at £36.20.

AEG Live, the company behind Sam Smith’s 2018 UK tour, and Live Nation UK, which is promoting the Liam Gallagher and Dua Lipa tours, did not respond to requests for comment.
