SECOND GOAL IN FIGHT TO BEAT THE DROP

-

Ivorian scored what may yet be one of the most valuable goals in his club’s history.

Better teams than West Brom might have already been in front at that point, but Alan Pardew is learning what Tony Pulis knew – that this squad lacks punch.

Pardew is in that careful-notto-offend stage, where he is tip-toeing around blunt truths as he tries to coax a revival, rather than ruffle feathers.

But he hinted he may need to bring in new faces next month to halt the Baggies’ winless slump, which now stretches to an alarming 14 matches.

“My teams have always managed to score,” said Pardew. “Sometimes you could question my defensive record, but my teams have always managed to score goals. But we’re finding it difficult to create chances.

“Having said that, midway through the second half we had some crucial chances and, as an away team, sometimes you defend, you’re not playing brilliantly, but you can go and win a game.”

Bony’s goal means Swansea have moved off the bottom of the table and are now only one point behind West Brom, who are just above the relegation places.

Clement knows it is only the start and he suggested that this week’s match, again at home, to leaders Manchester City will be a very difficult one.

“Some games are more winnable than others,” he said.

“We know it’s going to be really tough.”
