1am pubs bid for Harry’s wedding
BRITS may be allowed to drink in bars till 1am on the weekend of Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle.
The proposal by Home Secretary Amber Rudd could mean estimated extra takings of £10million for licensed premises.
A four-week consultation opens tomorrow on extending opening times till the early May mornings of both Saturday 19 – the wedding day – and Sunday 20.
There are fears that police might object to the move because of a date clash with the FA Cup Final on the Saturday. But Ms Rudd said: “The royal wedding will be a time of national celebration and we want everyone able to make the most of such a historic occasion.”
The British Beer and Pub Association said: “This is great news. Visitors see British pubs as a cultural icon almost as great as the Royal Family.”
