George statue stalled

Council says plans not thorough enough & locals object

- BY JIM HARDY

A BID by George Michael fans to honour the tragic star with a £100,000 statue has hit a wall.

The parish council in Goring-onThames, Oxon, where the star was found dead at home, says the plans are not thorough enough to be approved.

And it warned many locals oppose any large-scale tributes to the star.

Fans want to install a bronze sculpture of George on a sofa or bench in the high street, echoing his pose on the LIKE any bloke dragged round a shoe shop by his girlfriend, Ben Affleck looks a little Dazed and Confused. The Good Will Hunting star, 45, is snapped holding an £895 spiked leopard print trainer as producer Lindsay Shookus, 37, checks out skyscraper heels in a Christian Louboutin store in LA. Till at last she said: Ready for a coffee, Ben? Yep, about time we were Gone, Girl. cover of 2004 album Patience. A group got a quote and concept drawings from artist Andrew Sinclair, whose sculpture of David Bowie will be installed in Aylesbury, Bucks.

Led by Terry Daniels, from Milton Keynes, they said it will be a “stunning work of art that captures the essence of George”. But Cllr Catherine Hall said: “There’s a budget but no information on funding or whether they approached the family for support, so essentially there’s nothing for us to consider.” Mrs Daniels said she had not consulted George’s family but has approached his record label, Sony, to request funding. There has been a similar controversy over pans for a statue in Highgate, North London, where George also had a home. He was 53 when he was found dead on Christmas Day 2016.
