DART WIFE TELLS OF

- BY PATRICK HILL

THE smitten teenager knew her fella was serious about his sport when he took her to the pub on their first date... to throw darts.

Thud... treble 20. Thud, thud... more 20s. They might not have been Cupid’s arrows, but the schoolgirl could see that trainee electrician Rob Cross, then just 17, had something about him. A spark, if you’ll pardon the pun. Fast forward 10 years and Rob has given up his electrician’s job and is back on the oche – facing the legendary Phil Taylor in the final of the PDC world championships.

Georgia, his date from back in 2008, is now his wife, mum to their three children. And she’s nervous.

Thud... treble 20. Thud, thud... two more treble 20s. There’s no stopping Rob and he trounces 16-times champ Taylor 7-2.

Rob smiles sheepishly – almost embarrassed at thrashing his boyhood hero and picking up a £400,000 cheque.

Georgia, 26, yells with delight. But she knows in an instant that this – and the millions Rob now stands to earn – won’t change them. There will be no big house, no flash car.

WHISPERED

Thrilled Georgia today reveals the couple will stay grounded – and tells the Sunday Mirror how she had urged Rob to win “for his family”.

She says: “Just before Rob went on stage, I whispered ‘Go and win it for us’. He smiled, gave me a kiss and a wink and went out to play.”

Georgia reveals down-to-earth Rob, 27, wept tears of joy when the full enormity of what he had done for them and their kids Layton, six, Imogen, three, and Maddison, nine months, sank in.

She adds: “Things have been difficult in the past. I’ve had to put money away in envelopes to keep up with the bills.

“But things had been getting easier because Rob did well on the tour earlier in the year and this will all help us so much.

“This won’t change us. We’re very family orientated and we’ll carry on the same.”
