NIGEL THOMPSON MARJORIE YUE Breezy does it

- BY NIGEL THOMPSON

There’s no such thing as bad weather – just the wrong clothing. Winter? Bring it on! Why not wrap up warm and break out your anorak and boots for an invigorating walk to blow away the January cobwebs?

The National Trust and National Trust for Scotland have many sites open for a bracing stroll. Here’s our pick... Godolphin, Cornwall - Godolphin Hill: A gentle ramble and on a clear winter’s day you can see as far as St Michael’s Mount and St Ives Bay. Studland, Dorset - Old Harry Rocks: This part of the Jurassic Coast is beautiful on both a calm or blustery day - the sound of the waves beneath you will lift your spirits. Wicken Fen, Cambs - Boardwalk Trail /Monk’s Lode and Wicken Village: The all-weather Boardwalk is a gentle wander by ancient undrained Sedge Fen. On the longer Monk’s Lode you may spot short-eared owls. Longshaw, near Sheffield - Longshaw, Burbage and the Eastern Moors: Excellent Peak District walking country with ancient woods and tumbling streams. Bring your binoculars to get the best views of the red deer. Marsden Moor, Yorks - Heritage Trail: An invigorating eight miles across crisp moorland, where you may see elusive mountain hares wearing their winter coats. Gower, Swansea - Rhossili Headland: Enjoy the vista across the bay before heading back through the Vile, the remnants of a medieval strip field system. Wicken in Fens and, left, Marsden Moor Castle Coole, County Fermanagh The Killynure Trail: Open from November to February, it’s located off the lake walk and from the hill there are fine across the estate to the house and beyond. Fyvie Cawstle, Aberdeenshire – the grounds: A magnificent fortress and in the grounds the grandeur continues, with a picturesque loch to stroll round, a 19th-century boathouse and a bird hide. You may even spot a red squirrel.

Yeti Glove Ice Scraper, £6.99, prezzybox.com

Scraping ice and snow off your car on a dark morning is an abominable task, so add some fun to your frosty chores with a white furry claw. For added hilarity, why not add some prints in the snow on your neighbour’s lawn?
