FIVE KEY MOMENTS

- By DAVE HARRISON at Molineux

Referee Anthony Taylor evened it up with the harsh sending off of Leroy Fer for a trip on Helder Costa. CHAMPIONSHIP favourites Wolves showed their Premier League credentials, leaving manager Nuno Espirito Santo to boast that they outplayed their top-flight opponents Swansea.

Even though the Wolves manager rang the changes by bringing in his fringe squad players, they looked too good for the Swans.

Only their failure to convert chances prevented the runaway Championship leaders from claiming a major scalp.

But Nuno was content that his team dominated the game, even after having defender Ruben Vinagre sent off in the 40th minute.

Swansea were also reduced to 10 men when Leroy Fer was dismissed early in the second half.

Nuno felt both players deserved to be dismissed but insisted: “I am happy and pleased with the performance – both individually and as a team. We were the better team on the pitch.

“We deserved to win. We created very good chances and played very good football. We controlled the game, even when we had 10 men against 11. I’m sorry for the result but not the performance.

“It doesn’t matter that we were better than a Premier League team or what opponents we face. We adapted to the opposition but we didn’t change the way we played.

“We had a lot of players coming in but they gave the same answers as the ones who played before.” Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal saw the game differently and praised his side for the way they contained Wolves.

He said: “I’m very pleased about my players. The commitment and attitude was good and for part of the game we played with good quality against a very strong team.

“We blocked their dynamic. They created problems and we created problems for them.

“We take the game to next week at home so I have to be happy with my players. We progressed another step today.”

In only his third game in charge the Swans boss believes his methods are making an impact.

“We are introducing a new formation and ideas. In this short time I am very happy. The players are fulfilling all my expectations and I believe we will progress now.”
