Parky ref rage as quickfire Terriers stun Bolton
because of a horror challenge on David Wheater in the build-up.
He said: “We held our own apart from two minutes when we conceded a scrappy goal from a set play and you have to see the challenge on Wheater.
“It was a leg-breaking challenge right in front of the referee and he hasn’t given it and it resulted in the lad having a shot and a deflected goal. That goal should never have stood.
“We are very lucky not to have a serious injury.”
The goals in the second half were a welcome relief from a largely forgettable first as hefty personnel changes from both sides made for a poor spectacle.
Aaron Wilbraham should have given the home side the lead just before the break when Filipe Morais picked out the veteran in the six-yard box, but the 38-year-old was unable to get his header on target.
The half-time cup of tea appeared to have done the Huddersfield players a power of good.
Abdelhamid Sabiri’s stinging drive from outside the box drew an excellent save from Mark Howard and Laurent Depoitre tried a cheeky backheel from the corner that was hacked clear.
They took the lead on 51 minutes when Bolton failed to deal with another Sabiri corner and first-half sub Van la Parra poked home from close range.
But it was their controversial deflected second goal less than a minute later that got under the skin of Parkinson.
Williams picked up a loose ball after Sabiri’s challenge on Wheater and his shot deflected off Mark Beevers, leaving Howard with no chance.
Huddersfield boss David Wagner said it was his player that was fouled in the build-up.
He said: “There was a foul on Sabiri because he had his shirt pulled and he tried to win the ball with a long leg. I was surprised we did not get a foul.”
Wagner had to sit through a tense finish after Derik stooped to head home Morais’ corner after 64 minutes.
