Motorist escapes prosecution for car ‘joke’ message
A WOMAN who had the words “GO ON SMALL DICK PASS ME” plastered across her car’s back window dodged prosecution after saying she just did it to wind her boyfriend up.
Police quizzed Liz Hatfield after the message on her Vauxhall Corsa’s rear window caused a storm on social media.
The 47-year-old said the sticker was a cheeky jibe at her short partner Richard Buckley – known to his family and friends as Dick.
She said: “People have taken it as something else and I’ve left them to it. It was a private joke in case my partner was driving behind me.
“I’ve had police threaten to do me for a public order offence but then they went on Facebook and could see my partner was called Dick.”
Mum-of-two Liz raised eyebrows with the sticker on trips up and down the M62 from her home in Fitzwilliam, near Wakefield, West Yorks. And it has given the full-time carer an unexpected advantage in negotiating local traffic.
Liz said: “I’ve had it up for 13 or 14 months now and on local streets I’ve only been overtaken a handful of times. Message on Liz’s Corsa sparked a reaction online It has definitely slowed a few of the male drivers down. Women still go past me though.” Liz had the sticker made up specially in a shop for £20.
Another one on the rear window of her other car, a Volkswagen Jetta, reads: “Faster than a smackhead’s giro.” Liz said: “I just get young people asking me what a giro is.” Just to explain to any under-40s reading this, giro is an old word for a benefits cheque...
