Cadbury barred in NHS price hikes row

CADBURY chocolate bars have been banned from NHS hospital cafes and vending machines in a row over price hikes.

The logistics firm which supplies hundreds of hospitals is refusing to stock top-selling varieties such as Dairy Milk and Crunchie. The move comes after Cadbury’s US owners £85 £85 £22 £58.58 £70 £949 £20.50 £55 £178 £49.95 Mondelez tried to put up the price of hospital snacks.

NHS Supply Chain, which says it has been asked to find £300million of savings by health bosses, told its clients that Cadbury products were being “delisted” at once.

A message on its website says: “We previously informed you of a supply issue with all products in the Cadbury range. Mondelez requested a price increase we are not prepared to accept on behalf of our customers.

“All products in the Cadbury chocolate range from this supplier will be unavailable to order.”

Around 140 health trusts buy Cadbury products through NHS Supply Chain, which is part of logistics company DHL. The company has already slashed the number of product lines it offers from 600,000 to 315,000 to try to make buying more efficient.

Mondelez, whose products also include popular Creme Eggs, would not comment on the supply row.

In a separate move, NHS chiefs have already announced that “super sized” sweets and chocs will not be sold in hospital shops or canteens to combat rising obesity levels.
