for purpose. It’s as simple as that,” says Dan, who advertised a £150,000 reward within months of David’s death.
“In 10 years I’ve spoken to them only about seven times. They don’t want anything to do with me. They want it finished.
“I believe the police know who paid for the killing, but they can’t prove it.
“I don’t care about the shooter. I’m interested in the man who paid to have my son shot. I’d like him caught and get locked up to live a long, unhappy, miserable life. ”
Dan still runs his second-hand shop in Margate, Kent, 20 miles from Lydden where his son, who had just started a scaffolding business, was shot.
Now he wants closure before he leaves the UK for retirement in Thailand where he plans to run a dog sanctuary.
He says: “Every single day David is in my mind, whatever I do. It’s like it was yesterday. I’ve put out hundreds of leaflets and ‘wanted dead or alive’ posters with rewards.
“I kept putting up posters around town but the council kept taking them down.”
Now his daughter Christine, 18, helps continue the campaign on social media as Dan struggles to keep up with the internet. He hopes that if his Three Billboards style campaign does not work, then her efforts will pay off.
He said: “I still believe I’m going to find David’s killer. Whoever the person is, I’m tested his clothes it would’ve been different.”
Police launched a second probe but said: “No suspicious activity was found. The file has been submitted to the coroner.” hoping it will make them think. It’s not vengeance I want. It’s justice.” Detective Inspector Chris Greenstreet from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate’s cold case team said: “We continue to appeal for information. “We launched an investigation into David’s death, and regardless of the amount of time that has passed, we remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice. “Over the years we have followed many lines of enquiry. It has been a complex investigation which has been regularly reviewed. “The case is still open, we would like to hear from anyone with information who has not previously spoken to us. “We believe someone has vital information.”
