Piers: Are you ready to rumba?

Morgan is up for Strictly battle with breakfast TV rival Dan

-

Strictly bosses are desperate to sign breakfast telly hosts Piers Morgan and Dan Walker – hoping their simmering rivalry will continue on the dance floor.

The pair have been engaged in an on-off spat after Good Morning Britain host Piers, 52, goaded BBC Breakfast’s Dan, 40, over viewing figures.

And Talk TV can reveal Beeb execs want this bad blood to spill over on to Strictly.

Piers told us he would be up for the fight, saying: “I would seri- ously consider it if it meant giving Walker a lesson in how to dance in front of nine million people.” A source said: “Piers and Dan make Twitter digs at each other. It caught the attention of Strictly bosses, who want to tap into this rivalry. They think it’d be a ratings hit.” BBC Breakfast leads its ITV rival – but the gap is closing. After Dan tweeted a thank-you to viewers, Piers replied: “I just see your numbers falling every day mate... did you tweet this by mistake?” Morgan quoted his show’s figures and later cheekily referred to BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood as “a little devil”. Dan hit back: “Oi... I don’t mind you lying about your figures but lay off @carolkirkwood. “She is queen. You are one of her subjects.” After Piers pipped Dan in a poll of hosts, he tweeted: “Deepest sympathies to Danny Walker with his bright jackets, suits and ties... “I don’t know why I say that as all his viewers are now watching this show.”
