Sky must axe Jamie over shock spit spat
Not much shocks me these days, but that video of ex-England and Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher spitting over a 14-year-old girl through his car window really did make me gasp.
If a little bit of leg-pulling over a lost football match is enough to provoke a response like that, I don’t ever want to see him back on the telly.
Spitting at people is not just assault, it’s gross – an unforgiveable loss of self-control. And as the mum of a young boy who’s footballmad and regards telly pundits like Carragher as heroes and role models, I don’t want my son thinking that it is okay to drench someone in saliva for saying something you don’t like.
Yes, Carragher’s apologised. A lot. But by then he’d realised his actions were likely to have serious consequences for him.
Sky Sports has suspended him. Big deal. There should be no way back.
He aimed a gobful in the direction of a schoolgirl and the spittle reportedly hit her in the face. Now his TV bosses should hit him where it hurts...
In the pocket.
