Happy end to missing dog’s tale

-

CHALKY was still missing and I had written and posted the Twitter obituary.

Pippen, our elderly pooch, had got used to double rations of dropped food under Nancy’s high chair and having all of the dog bed to herself.

The children were upset and in weaker moments I would cry.

Searching for a small white terrier at Ravenseat was like looking for a needle in a haystack – there’s two thousand acres of moorland and rough grazing riddled with bogs and cliff edges.

It was sheer luck that our retired friend who had come to put up a few gaps in the drystone walls casually mentioned there had been a small white dog up at a pub in Kirkby Stephen.

The dog was actually a bitch, collarless and had no microchip.

This was strange as Chalky was chipped as a young pup and she was also sporting a very fetching pink diamanté spangled collar with her name and number on it.

Anyway, after a bit of investigative work we found that Chalky had been rehomed.

I went to reclaim her, had the vet microchip her again and brought Chalky back to the bosom of her family.

Everyone was beside themselves with joy, the return of the tailwagging, prodigal terrier.

This was the best Easter gift we could wish for and although Pippen didn’t seem that pleased to see her, she begrudgingly moved over in the dog bed.
