What a week... I loved every day

-

I’VE said for a while that if it were not for terminal prostate cancer, the last three years would have not been so good.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish I didn’t have cancer or had to endure yucky ongoing treatment but life has been, and is, better than ever.

I feel so lucky that, despite everything, my cancer and drive to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK have opened so many doors and changed my whole perspective on life. I have been given time to do those important things with family and friends that maybe I never would have if I had been well.

But sometimes we spend our lives looking forward to things rather than enjoying or making the most of each and every day. So last week I made a real effort to just enjoy everyday life.

I went for a walk with my wife Sarah and one of my sons, Ollie, I tidied up the garage, sorted out the garden, saw my brother, went to watch AFC Wimbledon, went to the dentist, went to work (of course!), cooked dinner, went for a few runs, had a barbecue, went out for a curry with a mate, had a few drinks in my local.

And you know what? I loved every bit of it. I was “living in the now”. Did I really want to clear the garage, have a temporary crown fitted or see my team only draw? Well yes, because those things forced me to find fun in the experience.

I now know only too well that the difference between having a good and bad time is so often just what’s in our head and we can control that. At the dentist’s I thought about how he would sort my tooth out and that was good news for chewing, something I took for granted until I couldn’t.

I know when I write next week I will have had a lucky, enjoyable experience – but that can wait until I have it. I hope that whatever your day brings, you also find many reasons to enjoy and appreciate it. Until next week, Kev justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-webber6
