A 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth sold last week for £112,500 – five and a half times its value new. The two-door RS500, with 12,021 miles on the clock, was one of 500 made and had rare diamond white paintwork.
Hagerty spokesman Marcus Atkinson said: “If you have an old car in the garage, it could be worth a lot. An interesting history is great, especially links with famous people or racing drivers.
“If a car is totally original but has been sitting in a dusty garage for years, buyers will flock to it.”
