Sinead is our angel. No one deserves to die like that

speak, but put her thoughts down on paper. She wrote poignantly of Sinead as a child: “My youngest daughter, the cheekiest smile, so tiny and took a while to start talking but when she did, aww she didn’t stop. “I will never ever forgive the ‘people’, if that’s the right word. They are not even human. Heartbroken is not a strong enough word. Only memories.” The family believe the police could have done more to help Sinead, who made a 999 call on May 10 last year after receiving malicious calls and texts from Ali. She later confirmed she was safe and well. Officers went to her home in Leeds the following day but could not contact her.

Police came back on May 13 but were met by Ali, who told them she was not there and had a habit of going missing.

The very next day joggers stumbled upon Sinead’s body close to the city’s Eccup Reservoir. She had been killed three nights earlier, in an argument at a party at Ahmed’s house.

Criticising the police response, Katie said: “I believe they should have sent someone out to the address that night, to check and see Sinead’s face and make sure she was all right.

“We had to listen to her 999 call in court, which was very difficult.”

Ironically Katie was with Ali when he was arrested, trying to comfort him after he had rung her 22 times to say Sinead had vanished.

Katie, who lives in Bradford, said: “I drove to his mum’s house and was in there for two minutes when the police banged on the door. I had actually given him a hug when I got there because he looked in such a state I felt sorry for him.”

TORTURE

The murder trial, which began last November, was told how Ali had plied Sinead with alcohol at a get-together at Ahmed’s home.

She was knifed six times and beaten with a claw hammer before being dumped in a cellar. Her body was then moved to woods, wrapped in a duvet and trussed with wire, before being doused with petrol and torched. A police officer
