GUARDIOLA’S STILL HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS

-

don’t like the feeling to lose games. It is not good for any manager around the world, so all managers try to avoid that.

“When you lose a game, you feel guilty, you feel bad. Your private life is not good, your relationship with the players is not good – that’s why you want to avoid that.

“Just that simple fear of losing a game makes you hungry.”

City were paid £10million by Amazon last season for unrestricted access to the inner workings of the club as Guardiola became the first manager in English top-flight history to win 100 points.

Clips of a documentary that will be released later this month have been made available to the public.

One brief insight shows Guardiola angrily addressing his players in the dressing room. “Some of you play better when you are angry with me,” he shouts. “So if you hate me, then hate me.”

Guardiola, who has won an incredible 23 trophies in just a decade of coaching with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, insisted that making friends with his players is low on his list of priorities when it comes to the business of winning trophies.

And he hinted at how his relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic disintegrated at Barcelona when he decided that he had made a mistake in signing the highmaintenance Swedish striker.

Guardiola said: “Sometimes you say some things in the heat of the dressing room. Some players need to be hugged and for you to be close to them for their best performance.

“Sometimes when you don’t speak to them is when they play better. So every person is different. Others play better when they are angry with their manager or because you shout at them.

“The important thing is that they play better, not their relations with the manager. The manager at the end stops.

“When they are together, he can be an exceptional manager, but after that they write books and make statements.

“They don’t have the courage to speak face-to-face, usually ones who don’t play.

“Normally they are sweet, and say how much the manager is a genius.”
