Battling Swansea are late bloomers – as sup

NEW Swansea manager Graham Potter proved he has the magic touch in his first game in charge after inspiring his side to victory at Bramall Lane.

The Swans are hoping Potter can work some of the wizardry that saw him take the Swedish league by storm, as the Welsh outfit look to bounce back to the Premier League following relegation.

And with his side trailing 1-0 with half an hour to go courtesy of George Baldock’s side-foot opener, it looked as though Potter was going to be given a rude awakening to the challenges of Championship football.

However, the 43-year-old former Southampton defender made two substitutions that turned the game on its head.

First he brought on Jefferson Montero, who caused havoc down the left.

And after the Swans had levelled, initially through youngster Oli McBurnie, it was Montero’s cross that was turned home by fellow substitute and new signing Yan Dhanda.

The new man became an instant hero, scoring with his first touch just seconds after coming on. It brought to an end a thrilling second half that for large parts looked to be going the home side’s way.

But Potter’s inspirational substitutions gave the Swans the spark they needed.

Both sides lacked sharpness in their passing in the blazing Yorkshire heat, and the game was in real need of inspiration after a drab first half that saw neither keeper really tested.

Swansea’s new signing Barry McKay, who has joined from Nottingham Forest, tried to provide some meaningful threat eight minutes into the second half when he took advantage of a waywa pass from John Egan.

The midfielder raced to the ed of the Blades penalty box and fou Joel Asoro in space to the right b the winger’s shot was block inside the area – and Unite record signing Egan breathed a si of relief that his poor pass was n punished.

Bersant Celina, a £3million b from Manchester City, followed s with a similarly misplaced p near the hour mark that present United new boy David McGoldr with the best chance thus far.
