RODGERS JOINS RESCUE EFFORTS

- BY KEITH WEBSTER

AARON RODGERS admits he has to play better if Green Bay are going to salvage their season and keep alive their hopes of the playoffs.

But the quarterback has had bigger things on his mind this week after giving $1million to help recovery efforts in the wake of the California wildfires. He grew up in Chico and was horrified to see towns he knew well from childhood destroyed.

Rodgers (below) said: “The California wildfires have devastated countless communities.

“In Northern California, where I was born and raised, the city of Paradise burned to the ground, and many of the residents that got out are now displaced in my hometown of Chico and across the north state. “I reached out to my friends and the mayor of Chico to find out how to be of the most help, and raising money for both immediate needs and the long-term recovery is what’s needed. “This is why I’m partnering with the North Valley Community Foundation and donating $1million to help with recovery and eventual rebuild of these communities.” Rodgers also posted on Twitter that, for every retweet he gets by the end of today, his sponsors State Farm insurance, would donate $1, up to a maximum of $1m, to the cause.

He will turn his attention back to football matters tonight when the Packers travel to Minnesota, knowing that nothing but a win will be good enough.
