Turning it up a notch

-

FUNNY that we’ve just seen all those games in the Nations League and many of the same players taking part – but this week’s club clashes are altogether more exciting.

Jose Mourinho has little choice but to send his men on a mission at home against Young Boys, of Bern, to stamp authority on their Champions League group.

He may even instigate a rare “attack, attack, attack” policy on Tuesday rather than the sleepinducing fare seen yesterday.

Pep’s side play (on BT Sport 3) at the same time and the Catalan will be looking for revenge away at Lyon for their having the temerity to beat Citeh at the part-empty Etihad stadium. Victory will shake off any lingering doubts of them topping Group F. Either Mancunian club should be worth a watch, but Jose’s need for a win is the more pressing.

Veering perilously close to the “Exit” sign on Wednesday night are Tottenham (BT Sport 3), but home advantage may see them regain momentum against Inter. Anything but a win would mean a steep, uphill struggle in Group B. It should be a tense affair, but just as intriguing, if not more so, will be Klopp’s boys in Paris. If Mbappe and Neymar are still out through injury, it could be the perfect time to pick up three points in the most tightly contested group.

And don’t forget Stevie G’s chaps in the Europa League in a tough tie with Villarreal on Thursday night.
